U.S. law enforcement agencies have dismantled four major botnets used to launch some of the largest distributed denial-of-service attacks on record.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, the takedowns targeted the Aisuru, Kimwolf, JackSkid, and Mossad botnets, which collectively infected more than 3 million devices.
The networks relied heavily on compromised consumer hardware – including routers and IoT devices -to generate massive traffic floods capable of overwhelming enterprise systems.
Authorities said the campaign represents one of the largest coordinated disruptions of DDoS infrastructure in recent years.
The move highlights a persistent challenge for defenders: attackers continue to weaponize unmanaged edge devices at scale.
